The world record redfish, caught in the surf at Avon on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The redfish had all but evaporated, and no one was exactly sure why. While rainbow trout are stocked here annually, the river’s large brown trout population is naturally reproducing and self-sustaining, another rarity for urban/suburban areas. Alabama’s redfish limit is three fish between 16 and 26 inches, allowing for one oversize redfish in the three fish limit. For instance, if each person can catch a limit of redfish – which is three, 18-inch long – up to 30-inch long fish per person, and you can have one redfish in that three that’s over 30 inches long, you’re having a good, early day trip.
